Fireplace Grates

A fireplace gate is a metal frame, typically made of cast iron or steel, that sits inside the firebox and holds firewood or other fuel above the floor of the fireplace. Its main purpose is to elevate the wood, allowing air to circulate underneath, which helps the fire burn more efficiently and with better airflow. By keeping the logs off the ground, a grate also protects the firebox floor from excessive heat and reduces soot buildup. Additionally, it helps keep logs from rolling out and making it easier to manage the flames. Using a grate leads to hotter, cleaner, and more consistent burns, and makes cleanup simpler by allowing ashes to fall through the bars for easy removal. Overall, a fireplace grate improves both the safety and performance of a wood-burning fire.
